Trajuan Briggs is a motivator, supporter mentor and bridge builder. A former student-athlete turned grad student, he finished his MS in Sport Administration at the University of New Mexico exploring Identity, Holistic Development, & the Black Male Student-athlete's experience at PWIs.

This week I had the pleasure to chat with Trajuan, where we talked about his journey establishing his academic identity while combating the negative stereotypes often placed on student-athletes. His uncommon path to grad school started as journalism work turning into a more meaningful curiosity all the while juggling classes, fatherhood, a unique grad assistantship as a college coach.

I especially enjoy this interview because Trajuan's story shows that your journey doesn't have to include being perfectly groomed for graduate school with summer research experiences, publications or the perfect GPA to flourish. But scholars are developed through a deep passion for some aspect of intense research.
